He keeps joining our table but his characters always seem to lack a reason to be adventuring (despise innumerable attempts on my end to make him understand why that usually doesn't work), so he is mostly acting like someone who doesn't want to be there, sarcastic and pesimist. well he's been playing with us for the past decade and a half and he always act like this. I think he mostly lacks the initiative and creativity needed for such a sandboxy adventure. I'm just trying to balance the teaching and freedom, I don't want to railroad them. In regards to my players, I give guidance to the slower one as much as he needs, he told me he played and knew about RPGs but I'm convinced now that he lied to me, for some reason. Nurse Ames is in a side room with just one entrance and Dr. Remember, there's only two bodies you can easily run into. He wandered out to Bobby's body after the investigators had seen it and started cursing Johnny Reb for taking the lives of so many young men. When I ran it, I had him notice the dead bodies but think they're Union soldiers. Billings rarely leaves his room and is so senile he thinks he's still in the Civil War. If he's in a depressive state, he could just stay in his room and refuse to believe the investigators about the murders.Ĭol. Henry is explicitly sleeping when the investigators arrive. Let her be absurdly delusional so she can be a red herring for the murders.Ĭarla would have a hard time separating the bodies from her hallucinations, and she doesn't seem to have left her room. She calls the nurse's body "an accident", and the whole point of her character is that she seems nice but is actually the most fucked-up person there. Leonard is both delusional and unstable, and he can get all the way outside without passing a single body if he uses the leftmost staircase out of the basement.ĭarlene also doesn't have to pass a body to get to the library, and she's suppressing her recent memory after seeing the monster.īlanche was delusional enough to murder her children despite being an easy patient - her paranoia could make her think the bodies are a trick. I think it's plausible - the patients are pretty messed up.Īllen is 0 SAN and has been in the basement the whole time. Now, for those of you that have ran, played or at least are familiar with the scenario, how did you tackle this gigantic plot hole? Have any advice to make this sound less of a joke? I'll be thankful for any insight, I want this game to be as good as it can be! I mean, come on, one of the guys might be delusional enough to think that, but all of them? With all the different psychological profiles and states of sanity? The more I think about it, the more cringy I get just to think how am I going to convince my players I'm not full of shit and that the scenario is nonesense. I'm talking about all the patients in the asylum being around dead people, bloodied bodies that they collectivelly believe to be "asleep". And this brings me to foresee this problem, that might confuse my already slowpoke investigator and sound like utter nonesense to my other sarcastic and nihilistic player (honestly, it totally should come off as nonensense). I'm bringing this up because he is already having trouble with basic stuff and the other investigator is going through an edgelord phase. Brewer invited you and the guy who brought you here tells you to go up the hill into the mannor, yet he is oblivious to what to do, the same inside the sanatorioum when he is told to wait in the library and immediatly get's stuck on what to do). One of my investigators is new to roleplaying games, more so than he implied he was, and is having trouble to know how to proceed, even for the simpler tasks (you arrive at the island where Dr. We are just beginning, things are going slow but steady. I'm running The Sanatorium (from the Mansions of Madness anthology) through play by post for a couple of friends.
